Dramatic Stoppage Time Goal Ends Scotlands Hopes Of Knockout Stage

Heartbreak for Scotland as Hungary snatch late Euro 2024 win

Dramatic stoppage-time goal ends Scotland's hopes of knockout stage

Kevin Csoboth's 92nd-minute strike sends Scotland crashing out of the tournament

Scotland's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2024 were shattered on Sunday after a dramatic stoppage-time goal from Hungary's Kevin Csoboth handed the Magyars a 1-0 victory.

The match was heading for a goalless draw before Csoboth pounced on a loose ball in the Scotland penalty area and fired home from close range.

The result means that Hungary finish second in Group F behind reigning champions Portugal, while Scotland bow out of the tournament after finishing third.

It is a heartbreaking end to a disappointing campaign for Scotland, who had hoped to make history by reaching the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.

However, they were unable to overcome a resolute Hungary side, who defended stoutly and took their chance when it came.

Scotland will now have to regroup and prepare for their next competitive fixture, which will be a Nations League match against Ukraine in September.
